Once you build up your website and it is ranking on page #1 in the search engine it might be tempting to just sit back and take it easy. After all, you are raking in some dough from the advertisement and affiliate products on your site, and since you can’t rank any higher than #1 why should you bother? But there are a few reasons why you should keep pumping out quality content for your website. It may not be the lazy way to build a business online, but here are 3 reasons why you should NEVER stop adding content to your site or blog.
1. Search engines love fresh content. It has been said that Google loves WordPress. But it’s not so much the software that the SE’s love, it is the fact that most of the time a blog has regular content that is being added to it. Google, Bing, and Yahoo do not want to fill the search result pages with old stale content that has been there forever. The more often you put content on your site the better quality your site will appear the the SE. And please make sure this is unique content. I’m not hatin’ on you autobloggers out there, but if you are not creating any unique content online then you are not adding value to the internet and you are definitely not adding any value to your site. What makes your site unique is what makes it valuable.
2. People love fresh content too. I will often do a Google search on a certain topic and I will limit the results to the webpages that have been created in the last day or week or month. The reason for this is that sometimes content is no longer as relevant when it is over a year old. Have you ever been back to a blog you used to love only to find that not a single post had been added since you were there a month ago. Chances are you will never come back. People want to see fresh content that has been updated. The bulk of your traffic should be from repeat visitors. A new visitor is good, but a repeat visitor is a much better indicator that they liked your site enough to come back. After all, I will try almost any restaurant for the 1st time, but I will ONLY go back if the food and service were sensational.
3. Every new article is another door through which a visitor can find you. This is really the biggest reason you should be adding new content on a regular basis. With every new article you are creating a portal through which people can access your site. There might be a new keyword that you used in an article that you did not even mean to use, but it’s the reasons you got a visit from someone in the search engines. And the more of these keywords you are ranking for the more traffic you can generate.
So there really are about a million other reasons you should be adding content on a regular basis, but these are the biggest ones I could think of. I know how hard it can be to add content when you have so many other things going on. I own about 40 websites (or so, I am always losing count) and keeping fresh content is a constant battle. But one thing I have noticed is that the sites I spend time on with fresh articles are the sites that are doing well and making me the most money.
