Best Ways to Build Backlinks the Smart Way
-
Everyone who has a website or blog wants to know the best ways to build backlinks. Why is this? One reason. Traffic! The more quality one-way backlinks you have pointing to your site, the more “magnetic” you are to Google. And don’t we all want our websites to rank #1 for those precious keywords? Well there are many factors to get your website to climb the search engine ladders of success, but one of the most crucial factors is the topic of this post… backlinks.
First, what kind of backlinks do you want to stay away from?
- Links from link farms
- Link exchange communities
- Buying links- most of them are complete rip-offs anyway
- Using article submission services that submit to PR0 junk websites
- Interlinking- that is using all your sites to link to each other. It might seem like a good idea, but Google frowns upon this activity.
Some people swear by the methods above, but in my experience I have even minor successes short lived and not worth it in the long run of building links to your site. Some of these methods will not necessarily hurt your site, but they won’t give it a boost either, and since time IS money you don’t want to waste any time or money on methods that simply don’t work.
Link exchanges are not a great way to build links because Google is smart enough to know what’s going on and the link will not be very valuable.
There is a system of building links, however, that has been out a while but has proven to be very effective. It basically makes a triangle out of your links. Linking from site A (your site) to site B, to site C, and site C links back to your site A. This is a sort of link exchange without appearing like it. 3WayLinks is a program that uses this method. It has been out for a year or so and some have claimed it does not work while others claim huge success. I am currently trying 3WayLinks myself to test it out on some of my sites and I will keep the readers of this blog updated. The key is to stay patient in the climbing up the SERPs process and you will see good results. Google swing your site up and down, but keep building backlinks and here is how.
Here are some good ways to get backlinks to your website the smart way
- Submitting to GOOD PR article directories like Ezinearticles and Go articles
- Leave INFORMATIVE comments on dofollow blogs (like this one=)
- Use Social Networks to build backlinks i.e. like Squidoo, Zimbio, Hubpages etc.
- Social Bookmark sites. Some are dofollow like furl.net, mister-wong, spurl, backflip etc.
- Submit more articles… Yup, you can’t do it enough. You may need to hire a writer.
- Forum posting. You need a lot of these posts to make it count, but it’s worth it. Just make your posts worthy of actually being read.
- Offer to write some guest posts for bloggers and leave links to your site as well.
- Get listed in directories like DMOZ and Yahoo. This should be done early on if possible.
- Write a press release. But make sure you actually have some news first and don’t do this too often.
- Start an affiliate program. If you have an affiliate program for your site than you are going to have marketers linking to your site for you, and all you need to do is give them a commission on any sales.
The Absolute Best Way to Build Backlinks…
Yes, this is the smart way, but be warned, this is not a fast and easy way.
Ready for this? Here is the best advise I could give on building backlinks…..
Create amazing content that solves problems and is interesting to read!
Yup, there it is… free of charge too. You see, the more you write about things that solve people’s problems the more people will link to you from their own websites. A “how to” article is great because it solves a problem. People search the internet for answers. They want to know the “hows” and if you provide them, you will generate more and more backlinks over time.
I know it sounds too simple and maybe you think the coach has gone crazy now. But if you are not creating original and unique content that is interesting you will spend years building backlinks the “not so smart way”. It takes work to write good stuff, but if you can’t do it, just hire some one who can.

Yeah link building is the top part of the SEO pyramid.
The bottom – and most important wrung – is the content itself. Original, regular content is king. Without out it any SEO campaign is maybe not necessarily completely doomed to fail, but it will never achieve the results that you expect in the long-term.

You’ve laid this post out pretty well as far as the subject of backlinks goes CC. In paging around your blog I’ve found some pretty informative stuff as well.
Regrading link exchanges; I agree, they don’t offer much. Most of my efforts were pretty disappointing.
And yes, writing good content to attract readers will always be number one, resulting in quality backlinks.
Thanks for the info!

Good round-up of all the different backlinking option. It’s also important not to rely on just one method. It’s more natural to have multiple sources.

This topic is quite trendy in the net at the moment. What do you pay the most attention to when choosing what to write ?

Do you recommend using sites such as adgitize and entrecard? I do notice a lot of people use these kinds of websites.
Good advice though, I will try these on my site.

Well done Coach! Great info.
One thing is that Yahoo, just costs too much for some, DMOZ is just imposible to get listed on.
have done a couple blogs, joined forums, still Google page rank 0, any ideas?

Great advice! I write a lot of articles, but I make sure all my articles go to at LEAST PR1 sites. Thanks!

You gave some great advice. I’ve written a few articles and I have content on webpages but I never thought about a “how to” article. I will now!

You made some great points. I am currently trying to build some quality backlinks to boost my blog. I know it’s an arduous journey but it’s going to well worth it.

Great Post. I think this topic about building back links is
one of the most frustrating things to do for new internet
marketers.
All anyone has to do is understand that this takes time to
do, and not expect too much right from the start, and over
time they will start to receive massive traffic from the
search engines by getting some great quality back links
to their site.

I’ll add one to the social media segment – infobarrel does well. And I agree with hubpages. Couple notes on that, though, you have to submit a certain number of quality posts to get your author rating elevated before the links you use in hubpages become do-follow links.
Also, for both hubs and infobarrel articles, write the best quality content you can. Not only can you make money from them, but you’ll gain readership to your hubs. Those readers will visit your links and they may click ads.
Best advice in this post was the last – write great quality content that helps others.

Great post, I agree that backlinks are the key and that original, useful content is the best way to get backlinks. I have had several websites in the past that did not do so well as I did not understand even the basics of SEO, but I have learned a lot over the years and have realized the circle of website growth,
content = backlinks = google = traffic = customers .

Your post helped me out somewhat. But article marketing still seems to only produce low PR links even when it is on high PR sites like Ezineartles.com.
Thanks for the list I’m still learning this whole thing. Video marketing is suppose to be pretty big as well. I guess it is all about diversification and trying to get high quaity links.

Great post! I have recently started in affiliate marketing, primarily using article marketing to build backlinks and you helped reassure me again as I was considering buying a linking service.. Here is what I do:
1) Post to my blog first
2) Use social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon etc. Identi.ca is amazing for this- relatively new and wicked results.
2) Spin and post various versions to Ezine, GoArticles and other quality article directories.
4) Submit all my sites to as many RSS aggregators as possible. 5z5.com is fantastic for baclinks- seem to get the most from them.
5) Post to scribd.com
The above seems to be working well.
Just one comment regarding the following:
“Leave INFORMATIVE comments on dofollow blogs (like this one=)”–> it is nice for you to suggest this but then why is your blog nofollow links for the comments? Gotta love the Firefox tools…

yes, diversify your links as much as you can and spread them out all over the web. You can use Unique Article Wizard to help get some more backlinks out there as well. I use it all the time.

Great post. What it really comes down to is putting in the work to provide value to a niche. Sure there are tools and little things that help but to build serious lasting success it’s all about value.
Excellent read.
