Everyone who has a website or blog wants to know the best ways to build backlinks. Why is this? One reason. Traffic! The more quality one-way backlinks you have pointing to your site, the more “magnetic” you are to Google.
And don’t we all want our websites to rank #1 for those precious keywords? Well there are many factors to get your website to climb the search engine ladders of success, but one of the most crucial factors is the topic of this post… backlinks.
First, what kind of backlinks do you want to stay away from?
- Links from link farms
- Link exchange communities
- Buying links- most of them are complete rip-offs anyway
- Using article submission services that submit to PR0 junk websites
- Interlinking- that is using all your sites to link to each other. It might seem like a good idea, but Google frowns upon this activity.
Some people swear by the methods above, but in my experience I have even minor successes short lived and not worth it in the long run of building links to your site. Some of these methods will not necessarily hurt your site, but they won’t give it a boost either, and since time IS money you don’t want to waste any time or money on methods that simply don’t work.
Link exchanges are not a great way to build links because Google is smart enough to know what’s going on and the link will not be very valuable.
Here are some good ways to get backlinks to your website the smart way
- Submitting to GOOD PR article directories like Ezinearticles and Go articles
- Leave INFORMATIVE comments on dofollow blogs (like this one=)
- Use Social Networks to build backlinks i.e. like Squidoo, Zimbio, Hubpages etc.
- Social Bookmark sites. Some are dofollow like furl.net, mister-wong, spurl, backflip etc.
- Submit more articles… Yup, you can’t do it enough. You may need to hire a writer.
- Forum posting. You need a lot of these posts to make it count, but it’s worth it. Just make your posts worthy of actually being read.
- Offer to write some guest posts for bloggers and leave links to your site as well.
- Get listed in directories like DMOZ and Yahoo. This should be done early on if possible.
- Write a press release. But make sure you actually have some news first and don’t do this too often.
- Start an affiliate program. If you have an affiliate program for your site than you are going to have marketers linking to your site for you, and all you need to do is give them a commission on any sales.
The Absolute Best Way to Build Backlinks…
Yes, this is the smart way, but be warned, this is not a fast and easy way.
Ready for this? Here is the best advise I could give on building backlinks…..
Create amazing content that solves problems and is interesting to read!
Yup, there it is… free of charge too. You see, the more you write about things that solve people’s problems the more people will link to you from their own websites. A “how to” article is great because it solves a problem. People search the internet for answers. They want to know the “hows” and if you provide them, you will generate more and more backlinks over time.
I know it sounds too simple and maybe you think the coach has gone crazy now. But if you are not creating original and unique content that is interesting you will spend years building backlinks the “not so smart way”. It takes work to write good stuff, but if you can’t do it, just hire some one who can.

Yes, no doubt it. Article Marketing is the best way to generate quality backlinks. Takes time but worth it.

Yeah link building is the top part of the SEO pyramid.
The bottom – and most important wrung – is the content itself. Original, regular content is king. Without out it any SEO campaign is maybe not necessarily completely doomed to fail, but it will never achieve the results that you expect in the long-term.
You’ve laid this post out pretty well as far as the subject of backlinks goes CC. In paging around your blog I’ve found some pretty informative stuff as well.
Regrading link exchanges; I agree, they don’t offer much. Most of my efforts were pretty disappointing.
And yes, writing good content to attract readers will always be number one, resulting in quality backlinks.
Thanks for the info!

Good round-up of all the different backlinking option. It’s also important not to rely on just one method. It’s more natural to have multiple sources.
Do you recommend using sites such as adgitize and entrecard? I do notice a lot of people use these kinds of websites.
Good advice though, I will try these on my site.

Well done Coach! Great info.
One thing is that Yahoo, just costs too much for some, DMOZ is just imposible to get listed on.
have done a couple blogs, joined forums, still Google page rank 0, any ideas?
David
Great advice! I write a lot of articles, but I make sure all my articles go to at LEAST PR1 sites. Thanks!

You gave some great advice. I’ve written a few articles and I have content on webpages but I never thought about a “how to” article. I will now!
You made some great points. I am currently trying to build some quality backlinks to boost my blog. I know it’s an arduous journey but it’s going to well worth it.
Thanks for the information … its fantastically helpful!
Great Post. I think this topic about building back links is
one of the most frustrating things to do for new internet
marketers.
All anyone has to do is understand that this takes time to
do, and not expect too much right from the start, and over
time they will start to receive massive traffic from the
search engines by getting some great quality back links
to their site.
I’ll add one to the social media segment – infobarrel does well. And I agree with hubpages. Couple notes on that, though, you have to submit a certain number of quality posts to get your author rating elevated before the links you use in hubpages become do-follow links.
Also, for both hubs and infobarrel articles, write the best quality content you can. Not only can you make money from them, but you’ll gain readership to your hubs. Those readers will visit your links and they may click ads.
Best advice in this post was the last – write great quality content that helps others.
Great post, I agree that backlinks are the key and that original, useful content is the best way to get backlinks. I have had several websites in the past that did not do so well as I did not understand even the basics of SEO, but I have learned a lot over the years and have realized the circle of website growth,
content = backlinks = google = traffic = customers .

nice information thanks for sharing
Your post helped me out somewhat. But article marketing still seems to only produce low PR links even when it is on high PR sites like Ezineartles.com.
Thanks for the list I’m still learning this whole thing. Video marketing is suppose to be pretty big as well. I guess it is all about diversification and trying to get high quaity links.

Great post! I have recently started in affiliate marketing, primarily using article marketing to build backlinks and you helped reassure me again as I was considering buying a linking service.. Here is what I do:
1) Post to my blog first
2) Use social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon etc. Identi.ca is amazing for this- relatively new and wicked results.
2) Spin and post various versions to Ezine, GoArticles and other quality article directories.
4) Submit all my sites to as many RSS aggregators as possible. 5z5.com is fantastic for baclinks- seem to get the most from them.
5) Post to scribd.com
The above seems to be working well.
Just one comment regarding the following:
“Leave INFORMATIVE comments on dofollow blogs (like this one=)”–> it is nice for you to suggest this but then why is your blog nofollow links for the comments? Gotta love the Firefox tools…
yes, diversify your links as much as you can and spread them out all over the web. You can use Unique Article Wizard to help get some more backlinks out there as well. I use it all the time.
Great post. What it really comes down to is putting in the work to provide value to a niche. Sure there are tools and little things that help but to build serious lasting success it’s all about value.
Excellent read.
I think this article is well written and informative. While I knew all of the information, I think it will really help people new to internet marketing.
great article, a lot of tedious work is needed but its worth it.
Importance of high quality articles for website and page rank
A website and its content should primarily be designed for the users and not for the search engines. Users browse through websites for unique and informative content. If the text can be optimized for the search engines without degrading its content quality, it will automatically bring web traffic and page rank.
I have just started looking into article marketing and am wondering which sites make the most sense to submit to.
Great blog, ezine articles is a great way to start building up a presence online. Its also worth using posterous to link back to your articles to give them some more weight.
Thanks for the informative article. I’m new to internet marketing, and your write up answered a lot of questions for me. Le us know how the 3WayLinks works out.
Very interesting… I myself started by using ezinearticles… they are very picky but once you get used to writing it their way they are a wonderful tool.
Great overall link building advice and thank you for some important submission sites. I appreciate the content.
Hi There
What are your thoughts on article submission software that submits to 100′s of directories?
I assume you are talking about something like UAW, Article Ranks, or SEO link vine. I am not big on them, and especially after the latest Google algo change I would not rely on them heavily. You might seem some rankings boost, but I think in the long term you want to focus on getting links that are a little stickier. Besides, this software submits the same spun article so you are not really adding that much value to the web, and it’s only a matter of time before Google can spot even a very well spun article in my opinion.
Whats your thoughts on Article Marketing Robot?
Thanks
Paul
I have seen some good results with it, but many of those sites are more like the content farms that Google has slapped around in the last update. I don’t use it anymore because I am sticking with only white hat methods right now. Building a long term business is the goal and these cheesy little article directory links just aren’t going to cut it for the long haul. Thanks for dropping by Paul.
hi i need help? i generate the backlinks and it counts in yahoo but google didnt count single one why??? you help will be highly appreciated
That’s actually a very common thing. Google’s webmaster tools will not always count the backlinks right away or even at all. This doesn’t mean they don’t know they are there so I wouldn’t worry about it. Just keep getting quality links and let them catch up.
Hi,
Thank you for your info. Do you have any experience with software that builds links automatically? Like Bookmarking Demon or Blog Blueprint? So far I have only used a manual method.
Thank you.
I would really stick with manual methods. Using automated tools for link building is not a good practice to get into and even though temporary results may be rewarding, it is not a good business model for long term growth. Google and other search engines hate this kind of link building because it manipulates the search results and just rewards spammers in most cases. You are better off doing some guest blog posting and networking with bigger blogs in your niche.
@ CashCoach
Thank you for answering my question. However, some influencial money bloggers still recommend some bookmarking software for link building. The online world is full of contradictive messages. I guess I just have to test things myself. But thanks again for your input. I like to be “in the loop”.
Your right, there is a lot of contradictory information out there. Let me clarify a little. I wouldn’t mind using some software to help with social bookmarking. You will get some results, but I like to target more competitive keywords which need more than just bookmarks. The big money keywords need a long term backlinking strategy that relies on networking with other influential bloggers in your niche. Google is only getting smarter anyway, and I would rather build links that will stand the test of time than automated links that are easy to sniff out. But that’s just me.
Great post! There were a lot of sites you mentioned that I hadn’t heard of like furl.net, mister-wong, spurl, backflip etc. So thanks for those!
I prefer writing top quality articles to places like Ezine. In the past I have found that when I write a great article there it gets picked up by several other top quality site and that one article that took me a couple hours to write nets me several decent backlinks. I have ranked several good sites using that method.

Thanks for the good tips. It’s important to diversify your backlinks but the most important thing is to create excellent content.
In addition to what you have said, Advertising your site to sell links is very bad and you could easilt be banned. Also, dont gather links very fast. I lost 3 sites easily because within 2 months of setting up the ste, i acquired over 2000 links. Google banned the sites. if you buy old domains which i think is the best, you can gather links very fast.Mind you, it also depends on the age of the domain. For domain over 5yrs, the sky is your limit. 1, 2 yrs be careful. Hope this help someone
Thanks for the advice, it all really comes back to having great content. Nothing is free, and to do it legitimately takes hard work. Glad I found your site and keep up the hard work!
that just cleared alot of stuff up for me, and the best part you weren´t trying to sell anything!
Thanks very much for this information, got them all written down and ready to start posting and joining sites, hope i get good ranking from this desperate for people to goon my site ……i need an income lol.cheers again.
Is this still.relevant since it.was written in 08 post panda. I’m looking for backlinks for new first site.
How do some sites have 10000+ bls must be an automatic way to do this.
Thx.
