Building a Cozy Community With Your Blog

I was just over at Blogtrepreneur and read a great post about some critical elements in a successful blog.  You can check out the post by clicking here. The main thing that caught my attention in this post was about community atmosphere.  The writer wisely pointed out that when people feel like they belong to something and like they are a part of the community of the blog it is great for everyone.  They will interact more, leave comments, and tell their friends about the blog site as well.

The backbone of your blog will be your loyal readers who make the community.  But it is up to the blog owner to make the blog a place that is welcoming and open for interaction.  This is why it is so crucial to sound like a human.  Don’t ramble on about some technical detail without ever giving your opinion or what you think about the topic.

It’s much easier to read blog posts that have heart in them too.  Write like you talk.  Go ahead.. I promise it won’t hurt.  It will actually probably make the writing process go a lot faster.

Another point made in the post was about diversity of traffic.  That one is much overlooked.  If you rely on Google for all yoru traffic than you are going to be one sad puppy when your pagerank drops or your site seemingly drops off the face of the world for a few months.

It is dangerous just to rely on search engines for traffic.  Use the same concept above of building a community with your traffic too.  Build a community with facebook, myspace, hubpages, squidoo lenses and make useful comments where appropriate.

People want to read from someone who they can relate to, and the more you build a friendly atmosphere where they can learn about what you are posting on, the more likely they are to come back and make their own contribution to the community.
