Believe it or not, eBay is still a goldmine for bloggers, even after being around for a while and even if many bloggers don’t even realize it. The easiest and best way to make money with ebay on your blog is to use an RSS feed.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and what it does is make a live feed of current ebay auctions that are going on and it will automatically update itself. And it really is pretty simple to put an ebay RSS feed on your blog too. You will need some space in a column or you can even use an entire page on your blog to adbertise some of the stuff being sold on ebay.
What do I need to get started?
Well I am assuming you already have a blog, but if not… start one. It’s a piece of cake really.. otherwise I would not have one. The next thing you need is to join the EPN (ebay partner network). This is ebay’s affiliate program that they use to keep tract of your sales and your referrals clicks and all that information. You may not get approved as EPN has buckled down a little bit lately, but it’s free to join and worth a try. One thing is for sure. If you do become a member of ebay’s affiliate program you can rake in some serious cash.
How much money can I make?
You get commission on the ebay listing fee, not the actual price the item was sold for. Otherwise you would be cutting into the profits of the person who is selling the item, and that wouldn’t be very fair would it? So ebay pays you for referring someone to an auction on ebay which results in them winning the aution or using the “Buy it now” option.
Usually you get about 50% of the fees that the seller has paid. So this amount can vary based upon what options the seller chose. If they went with the works, and got the auction listing highlighted and featured and everything like that then your commission will be higher, but the main thing is to focus on simply getting targetting traffic to ebay that actually wants to buy something.
You can make $25 everytime someone signs up.
This is one of the best parts of EPN. I have had sales go through the roof on certain days and it was all because I had some people who were not previously members, click on one of the ebay links in the RSS feed, check out the auction, and sign up with ebay for the first time. Now to prevent fraud, ebay also requires that the new member not only joins but also bids on an item and wins the auction for you to get the $25 bucks. This is a nice added bonus to prmoting ebay products on your blog.
Best reason to join ebay’s affiliate program
There are thousands and thousands of affiliate programs you can join, but then you have to constantly be checking all these different websites all the time to track your progress. If you join EPN you can just focus on tracking your ebay affiliate stats, and the great thing about ebay is…. well, they just about sell everything you can possibly imagine. You can market and promote any niche and give people the cheapest place to buy it too, so it’s a win win. With all the affiliate products you can imagine all in one place, it just makes sense to work with EPN, especially if you are just starting out in affiliat marketing.
So How to I put the RSS ebay feed on my blog?
This part may seem confusing but it is actually pretty simple. In ebay you need to do an advanced search and type in the keywords you want to target.
Then you scroll down and make sure you click on “show” for tracking information. It is there you will put your EPN campaign number ID. This is how ebay will track your stats. To get a campaign number just go to click on campaign from your EPN dashboard and creat a campaign for this keyword.
Click search for results on ebay and on the next page you will scroll to the bottom and right click the RSS orange button. Click on copy link location.
The next step depends on how your blog is set up, but if you are using a simple blogger blog you can go to rssjava.com and paste in that url you just copied. Make sure you have the html option on and then click generate java code.
You will paste this code into your blog widget on blogger. if your RSS feed on your blog allows html than you can just paste that copied url from ebay into it.
I know I went over this quickly, but for a more detailed explanation of how to put an ebay RSS feed on your blog chck out this video post I made.
