When you are trying to decide what niche to target you will be tempted just to take a broad sweeping aproach to that niche, but don’t do it.
It might seem foolish to focus on one small, seemingly insignificant little niche when there are millions to be made in the broader scheme of things right? Well look at it this way. How much money does a general doctor make? You know, the guy who just knows a little bit about everything and then refers you to some other guy when he can’t solve the problem simply. He makes maybe $50k a year. Who is it that makes the big bucks? The specialists that your general doctor refers.
Specialists make the big bucks. A brain surgeon who ONLY does brain surgeries and nothing else makes more than the guy that claims to know it all as a general docotor. Why is that? Because that brain surgeon can focus ONLY on the brain he tends to know more than anyone else about it. And when someone needs that brain surgery they want the very best in that SPECIFIC field and are willing to pay tons of money for it.
The same principle applies in any realm of business really. The person who focuses on just ONE area of their expertise will become successful.
Controlling those emotions to focus on just one area of internet marketing is not easy. We are bombarded with new ideas and new money making opportunities all the time online. But if you focus on one niche, and then find a subniche under that, and maybe even a sub niche under that, you will find that you are soon becoming an expert.
An expert is someone who knows more than the average person about a particular topic. When people realize that you really do know what you are talking about in a specific field, they will not only tend to trust you more and buy the products you are promoting, but they will recommend you and tell their friends about this amazing “specialist”.
When I first started in internet marketing and affiliate marketing I just wanted to do it all. Another niche opportunity would come up and I would go after that, and then I had another great niche idea and I would go after that. Until I realized that I was not successful in ANY of these areas because I was not being a specialist.
Then I had to refocus my time and efforts into a very specific niche that people needed information about. The more I studied the more of an “expert” I became.
The only way you can be that general internet marketer in the end is to outsource a whole bunch of projects and get people under you who ARE specialists and can focus on that one area. Of course this may take some management skills but it’s best to start off with the one great passion you have. Even if it is a hobby, ride that hobby horse, and when you fall off get back on.
Whew, am I using too many metaphors here?
The point is. The greatest reason internet marketers fail is that they get distracted. Don’t let this happen to you. By focusing on ONE sub-niche you are less likely to become distracted and carry on this juggling act. So keep pushing through. One lesson I hve learned in affiliate marketing is that you can be successful in ANY specific niche, if you just through the difficult parts.
Once you push through those difficult stages of building and writing and promoting, you will have passed by many other failed marketers who are too busy being distracted with the newest shiny object in town.

[...] This is an easy trap to fall into. You found the perfect niche to promote, but wait… what is this.. Oo a new awesome product to promote…And then you get that twinkle in your eye and start promoting a totally different niche than the one you started with. Stick with ONE niche. Just one. Otherwise you will tempted to go in a million different directions and never succeed in any one of them. Check out my post on choosing one specific niche. [...]
