Why Every Affiliate Marketer Should Love Competition
-
Often we as marketers just want to find a niche or sub-niche or sub-sub-niche that absolutely NO one has discovered before. We get that twisted smile on our faces and that twitch in our eye just thinking about exploiting a niche that is untapped. But what about the competition? Do you purposely avoid niches or markets that have what seems like too much competition? Why here is why I think every internet marketer and affiliate marketer should just love competition instead of running away from it like it’s the plague.
1. Competition shows that people are making money in that market.
Hey, let’s face it.. the reason there are so many people pushing weight loss products is that there is a lot of money in it and people are striking gold. This does not mean it will be easy to shove your way into an overpopulated market, but it does mean that it is a lucrative niche.
You may find a niche that has never even been heard of before by 99% of people, but then guess what? It’s probably not going to make you any money either. Competition will always show you where the money is. USfreeads does not allow any ads about credit cards. Hmm, what does this tell you? It tells me there were a lot of people making ads about credit cards to collect those commission off of sign-ups. So many, in fact, that the website no longer allows these types of ads.
The credit card industry is a tough market to push, but if you can push past the doubts and skepticism you can make a great living. All because competition always shows us where the money is.
2. Competition forces you to strive to become the absolute best in that niche.
Remember, even in competitive fields, only the best will really succeed. The cream always rises to the top. Lots of newbies will go after that super large niche and fall flat on their faces because they just were not prepared to go against all that competition with huge websites and tons of backlinks. So does this mean you should give up? Nonsense. This means if you can out perform all the other marketers with sheer will power and hard work you will see amazing results.
The difference between those who are making a fortune on the internet with affiliate marketing and those who are losing more than they are making is one major element. Perseverance! You don’t have to be a brainiac (I think I prove that point), a techy, a web developeer, or even an experienced marketer to thrive in affiliate marketing. You need only not give up. You can always hire brains. I hire people to help me with web design and software all the time. The key is, I push past doubts and fears of failure.
Instead of shying away from that competition, let it motivate you to try even harder.
3. Competition allows you to see what everyone else is doing and learn from THEIR mistakes.
I often will look at other people’s landing pages and squeeze pages on a popular niche and see what they are doing right, and what they are doing wrong. You can get so many ideas in a competitive niche because examples of how to promote that niche are everywhere.
It’s much better to learn from someone else’s mistakes than to make them yourself, so look around at your competitors. Look at them as friends more than enemies because they are actually helping you become a better internet marketer. An observant marketer will make more money in affiliate marketing than a smart, headstrong one.
I remember running a campaign for a weight loss product and it seemed like 50% of everyone else who was pushing the product was using the exact same review page template… Hmm.. do I WANT to have the same page as everyone else? I don’t think so. In that case, my competitors showed me a way to do something better than them and hopefully, to bring in more sales as well.
4. Competition often opens up other outlets of marketing that were unexplored before.
When businesses compete they end up trying to outdo each other and come out with even better products than before. Competition is the driving force behind this, and it is the same way with makign money on the internet. When everyone is using the same methods to push a product, it should make you stop and think if there is a BETTER way. Not an easier way, mind you. It will often take a lot of hard work as I already stated. But new doors of opprtunity will open up if you merely look for them.
So don’t run away from a little competition. Embrace it, and let it drive you to success.
