There are Pay Per Click die hard fans out there and some have made millions of dollars by finding cheap keywords to target with PPC and drive that traffic to a targeted website, but in my experience it is the SEO guru that is going to be better off in the long run. And here is another reason why.
With PPC there are many restrictions you will have, especially if you are involved in affiliate marketing. If you are promoting a certain brand they will not allow you to use their brand name for your keywords in your PPC campaign. Often, even Google Adwords itself will not allow you to use brand names in your keywords either.
With proper SEO you can target keywords even that have brand names in them as well. You can work to rank in the search engines for those brand names that people are searching for, and because there will be no PPC ads for those keywords there will be even less competition on the SERP page too.
And since you are not paying for every single click you don’t have to worry about click fraud and your competitor constantly clicking on your ads to use up your daily budget and drive your profits into a hole. You may be an optimist and think this does not happen, but the truth of the matter is that it happens all the time.

The #1 reason to target SEO over PPC is pretty clear.. FREE.
I don’t have to pay a dime when I focus on SEO. Sure I can buy links and even hire an SEO, but the truth is that I’m not paying so much money to be in front of another person.
Also, SEO lasts longer. You stop doing SEO this month on a keyword and next month you could still be ranking. Whereas, you become invisible when you stop paying PPC

Being an SEO guy I must say their is nothing free about SEO. You either must pay someone like me to do or you do it yourself. I highly value time because I can not replace it. So while I do agree that SEO can be done without incurring a financial cost. It will take time.
But it is a way better investment than PPC. I am an organic specialist. I have never spent a penny on PPC.

I definitely agree. I provide my client with a detailed website review. It is basically a blueprint for the client as they can do the SEO themselves. I want to focus on working on the content so that the site is worthy of the traffic and will convert.
